Jana Mackey was a 25-year-old KU Law student, an advocate for women’s rights and had spent years volunteering to aid victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. Despite her extensive education and experience as an advocate for the Willow and GaDuGi Lawrence Sexual Assault Center, Jana was murdered in a brutal act of Domestic Violence on July 3rd, 2008. Her parents, Curt and Christie, have since made it their personal mission to promote equality, love and justice. Both Christie and Curt are professors of leadership studies at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. Dr. Christie Brungardt’s expertise includes women and leadership and women’s studies, while Dr. Curt Brungardt specializes in political leadership, social change, and community organizing.
