Graduate Student Resources
AMS Graduate Handbook
The handbook provides detailed information on our Department and graduate program, as well as instructions and advice on completing each graduate degree. Consult the handbook revision for the catalog year you are following. While the handbook is based on the Academic Catalog, the Catalog is authoritative.

Degree Requirement Checklists
Every student must file a checklist with the Graduate Academic Advisor and update it regularly until achieving doctoral candidacy (i.e., passing the comprehensive exams). Print the checklist for the degree you are working on and take it along when you meet with your advisor each semester. Fill in the course requirements that you have completed, and deliver the checklist to the graduate academic advisor, who will provide you with a copy. Be sure that the checklist in your department file is up-to-date. When you have completed course requirements, ask your advisor to sign the list, indicating that your chosen courses have filled the requirements.

Annual Evaluation Materials
Every current graduate student is required to submit annual evaluation materials by March 15 each year. Complete the form for the degree you are currently working on, and report on activities for the last academic year.

Graduate Catalog
All degree requirements are listed in the American Studies section of the Academic Catalog. Your requirements are set by the catalog that is in effect during the first semester of your studies. You may opt to switch to a later revision of the catalog if you choose. To view your catalog, select a year on the Academic Catalogs page, open Liberal Arts and Sciences, find American Studies, and click on the appropriate degree.

COGA
The College Office of Graduate Affairs (COGA) is responsible for graduate program quality and degree completion.
