José Héctor Cadena is a writer, poet, and collage artist, who grew up along the San Ysidro/Tijuana borderlands. He received the bachelor's degree in English with a minor in Spanish and Chicana Chicano Studies from San Diego State University and the Masters of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University. He is currently a doctoral student in the Department of American Studies at The University of Kansas. ​
