Dr. Weisenfeld’s lecture, “Spiritual Madness: Race, Psychiatry, and African American Religions,” will explore how ideas about race, religion, and mental health shaped the experiences of African Americans and the emerging field of psychiatry in the 19th and early 20th centuries. While exploring a specific time in the past, this lecture will address topical issues relevant to many disciplines within our university.
