Please congratulate Caleb Lazaro Moreno. Caleb has been awarded the Tinker Graduate Student Field Grant from the Center of Latin America and Caribbean Studies and the Tinker Foundation. The purpose of the grant is to make it possible for pre-dissertation graduate students interested in Latin America and the Caribbean to conduct research in the field and to acquire key knowledge about the language, culture, and geography; collect field data; and to develop contacts with scholars and institutions in the field. With the Tinker Field Research Grant, Caleb Lázaro Moreno will work in México to analyze the political and theological dominant discourses related to Aztec human sacrificial systems and their systematic abolition during the sixteenth century. As an American Studies PhD student, Lázaro Moreno is approaching this research project as the beginning of a potential comparative analysis in which he would study the implications of this research for marginalized non-white populations in the contemporary United States.
